Understand Your Insurance Coverage

It is IMPERATIVE that you understand your auto insurance coverage!

Accident Risks in Las Vegas

In Las Vegas and the surrounding cities, current estimates suggest roughly 1 in 5 collisions in the area may involve an uninsured motorist. Additionally, roughly 31% of drivers are considered underinsured, meaning the coverage they do carry will not be enough to compensate an accident victim fully for their losses and/or property damages.

Nevada Minimum Insurance Requirements

At least $25,000.00 for bodily injury to or death of one person in any one accident

At least $50,000.00 for bodily injury to or death of two or more persons in any one accident

At least $20,000.00 for injury to or destruction of property of others in any one accident

Each driver must carry current proof of valid required liability insurance in the motor vehicle

What “Full Coverage” Really Means

It is common to hear clients say “I have full coverage” only to surprise them when we explain to what their policy for “full coverage” actually covers. In the insurance industry there is no such thing as “full coverage”. It’s not a universal term that is legally recognized. It’s a term that means different things to different people.

In layman’s terms, full coverage is understood to mean you’re fully covered for damages to your car and damages to others, i.e. Comprehensive and Collision protections and/or property damage. It DOES NOT mean anything about the dollar amounts of the coverage.

You could have the state’s mandated minimum coverage (in Nevada $25,000/$50,000/$20,000) or an insurance carrier’s highest offered limits on any auto policy.

It also DOES NOT mean you are protected against Uninsured Motorists or Underinsured Motorists (UM/UIM) in the event you are in an accident with such a driver. It also does not provide automatically for Medical Payment due to injury, nor does it include such add on coverages like towing or rental car reimbursement.

If you were injured due to the fault of another party you should immediately seek medical attention and meet with Posin Law Group for a free consultation so we can help you get the compensation for your injuries that you deserve.

Steps to Protect Your Rights

Speak Carefully After Accident

Be careful when discussing your case with police or insurance representatives. Only state what you clearly know and avoid any assumptions. Do not allow others to influence your statement or put words in your mouth.

Avoid Other Insurance Communication

Do not speak to the other party’s insurance company before getting proper legal advice. Early communication without guidance may affect your claim and could be used against you during the case process.

Seek Medical Attention Immediately

Attend to your injuries as soon as possible and follow all medical advice given. Use your health insurance when available and document treatments carefully to support your claim and recovery process.

Keep Records And Documentation

Maintain detailed records of all expenses related to your case. Keep copies of medical bills, reports, lost income, mileage, and any additional costs connected to the accident and recovery.

Do Not Sign Without Advice

Avoid signing any documents or agreements unless you fully understand them. Always consult with an attorney first to ensure your rights are protected and no critical details are overlooked.

Get Legal Help For Citations

If you receive a traffic citation, seek legal assistance immediately. Even if partially at fault, you may still recover damages depending on liability and the overall circumstances of the accident.
